An error by Ibn Ḥibbān!

Ibn Ḥibbān said in al-Thiqāt (6/233):

“Ḥarmalah ibn ʿImrān al-Tujībī, from the people of Egypt, his kunyah is Abū Ḥafṣ. He narrates from Abū al-Aswad and ʿUqbah ibn Muslim. Ibn al-Mubārak and the reciter ʿAbdullāh ibn Yazīd narrated from him. He was born in the year seventy-eight, and he died at the age of eighty-two on Thursday in the month of Shaʿbān in the year one hundred and sixty, and he was buried on Friday. He is the grandfather of Ḥarmalah ibn Yaḥyā al-Tujībī.”

I say: This is how he mentioned him in the class of the Followers of the Followers (Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn), then he repeated him again in the class of the Followers of the Followers of the Followers (Atbāʿ al-Atbāʿ).

He said in (8/210):

“Ḥarmalah ibn ʿImrān al-Tujībī, Abū Ḥafṣ, from the people of Egypt, narrates from Abū al-Aswad and ʿUqbah ibn Muslim. Ibn al-Mubārak and the reciter narrated from him.”

I say: The first classification is correct; he is from the Followers of the Followers.
